Neformálním setkáním v komorní atmosféře byl v neděli v pražské Ryběnaruby oslaven Světový den Tibetu. Ten každoročně připadá na dalajlamovy narozeniny. Letos je dalajlámovi třiasedmdesát.Na oslavě byl na počest dalajlámy sněden dort. Vyroben byl nikoli z tibetských, nýbrž českých a kubánských surovin – především čokoláda a banán. K dortu přítomní popíjeli lahodný čaj. Zájemci mohli podepsat petici na podporu dalajlamy, připojit se k přání pro něj a nakreslit mu obrázek. „Podporujeme a velice si vážíme vašeho vytrvalého úsilí o mír a spravedlnost v našem světě. Skrze nenásilí, stejně tak jako uvědomování lidí o tom, že neděláme-li nic, se nedobereme ničeho,“ stojí mimo jiné v hromadné gratulaci.
Aktivisty podporujícími svobodný Tibet byli přítomní informováni o chystané říjnové akci. Prahu v té době navštíví osm tibetských mnichů z původního dalajlámova klášteru Tašilhunpo, který se v minulosti nacházel v Tibetu, nyní v Indii. Mniši svůj kulturní program představí nejprve ve Velké Británii, do Prahy se dostanou ve dnech 20.-27. října. Ubytováni budou v rezidenci pražského primátora Pavla Béma (ODS). Prahu by měli v tu dobu navštívit i jiní Tibeťané. Ti budou ubytováni především v bytech lidí, kteří podporují svobodu pro Tibet – ať již v podobě autonomie (jak chce dalajlama) nebo přímo nezávislosti.
V pondělí 7. července proběhne na podporu Tibetu cyklojízda. Cílem je upozornit na dlouhodobé porušování lidských práv nejen v Tibetu, ale také v Číně a v Barmě a na nesoulad takového jednání s olympijskou chartou. Cyklojízda odstartuje v 18 hodin na náměstí Míru, skončí na Petříně vyvěšením tibetské vlajky. Stejné cyklojízdy proběhnou i v jiných městech České republiky – v Pardubicích (17. července), v Brně (23. července) a v Ostravě (8. srpna).

World Tibet Day & Dalai Lama's Birthday Celebrated in Prague, Czech Republic
World Tibet Day was celebrated at an informal get-together in the chamber-like atmosphere of Rybanaruby cafe, tearoom & shop in Prague. Each year this day coincides with Dalai Lama's birthday on July 6th.
At this meeting in honor of the Dalai Lama a birthday cake was eaten. It was not a traditional Tibetan cake, but a Czech-style "Cuban cake," mainly consisting of chocolate and bananas. Delicious tea was served together with the cake. Participants could sign various petitions provided by Amnesty International, for example there were some against censorship and the death penalty in China among others.
"We support and very much appreciate your ongoing work helping to bring about peace and justice in our world by taking non-violent action and making people aware that doing nothing is the cause of nothing.", was written on a card to be delivered to the Dalai Lama, in a collective congratulation.
Everyone was also informed about an upcoming event planned for October 2008. Monks from the Dalai Lama's monastery of Tashi Lhunpo, re-established in India after the Chinese occupied Tibet, will come to Prague. The monks are currently touring the UK and they will come to Prague from the 20th to the 27th of October 2008. The monks' visit is officially endorsed by the Mayor of Prague and their visit will highlight a Week of Tibetan culture, consisting of such events as a sacred Cham masked dance performance by the monks, a conference on Tibet at Charles University, an evening of Inter-religious dialogue at the Academic Parish of Prague, a photo exhibit and much more. One day after World Tibet Day a bicycle ride in support of Tibet will take place in several cities of the Czech Republic, starting out in Prague on Monday July 7th. The aim is to raise awareness of the long-term breaking of human rights in Tibet, as well as China and Burma and to point out the total dichotomy of these violations with the Olympic Charter. The Prague event will conclude by hanging the Tibetan flag on Petrin Tower before moving to other cities, finally reaching the Eastern-most largest city of the Czech Republic, Ostrava, on the 24th of July.
